There is no shining light that will surround you like Jesus did to Saul on the way to Damascus.

There is no envelope that will arrive by owl.

There is something far simpler – there is Jesus’ own last command to His disciples: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew’s rendering).

Are you a disciple of Christ? Are you a follower of the Lamb? Are you a believer in Jesus?

Then you have been called to ministry!

We are called to “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” And to “do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus … taking the form of a bond-servant” Jesus washed his disciples’ feet – not to be “nice”, but to show that we are to mimic His servanthood in our obedience to Him in ministering to others.

The Spirit has graced each of us with gifts to be used for the edification of the church – for the building-up of one another: “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good … But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.”

Are all Christians called to the same type of ministry? Of course not! But we are all called to minister to the body – “we are members of one another”, “He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.” “[B]ut speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.”
